Analysis of the Impact of Social Capital on Settlement Consciousness: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Urban Risk Perception
Choi, Jae Kook · Moon, Kuk-Kyoung
This study analyzed the effects of social trust, social networks, and social participation, which are sub-dimensions of social capital, on settlement consciousness. It also tried to verify the moderating effect of urban risk perception on the relationship between social capital and settlement consciousness. To this end, the panel data was constructed by combining public data provided by the Seoul Open Data Plaza and the Seoul Surveys from 2010 to 2017 covering the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul. Feasible generalized least squares (FGLS) was used to analyze the data because of heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation errors. As a result of the analysis, it was found that social trust, social network, and social participation had a positive effect on settlement consciousness, and it was confirmed that the higher the urban risk perception, the weaker the positive relationship between social trust and settlement consciousness. The analysis results of this study suggest the necessity of implementing urban policies in consideration of the situational conditions of urban risk perception along with the importance of social capital as an alternative to strengthening settlement consciousness.
